Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method used to evaluate and report environmental impacts throughout the life cycle, starting with the acquisition of all inputs used in the production of products or services, covering all relevant production, shipping, end-use and disposal stages.
With the "National Life Cycle Assessment Database Development Project" carried out by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center on behalf of the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology General Directorate of Strategic Research and Efficiency; a National LCA Database is developed as the basis of LCA studies that are needed in supporting sustainable development and ensuring economic and environmental benefits with resource efficiency.
The energy and domestic and industrial water supply data sets, which form the core of the National LCA Database, have been calculated to represent Turkey both geographically, technologically and temporally, and have been audited by an international independent reviewer. Within the scope of the project, data set development studies continue for steel produced in arc furnace facilities, cement, lime and freight transport (road, rail, sea and air).
