R/V TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Vessel

The fleet consisting of the research vessel and the survey boats (fitted with state-of the-art scientific infrastructure and unlimited cruise zone) provide crucial field data via research projects in the study of marine environmental monitoring of the Turkish seas. Moreover, the research vessels are ready to collaborate with research, engineering, and infrastructure projects for governmental institutions and private sectors. For more information about the infrastructure and scientific capacity of the vessel, as well as ship availability, contact us via rvtubitakmarmara@tubitak.gov.tr or (90) 262 677 2900.

Multidisciplinary marine research is related with many different activities such as energy & mineral exploration, coastal management & fisheries, tourism and maritime transportation. Turkish Straits as well as entire Turkish coastal zones, marine protected areas are under the threat of accidental petroleum pollution, chemical & toxic leakage, and biofouling caused by ballast water based on international maritime traffic. In order to provide a sustainable protection, it is important to conduct oceanographic & hydrographic research, to observe climate & seasonal dynamics and to monitor marine biodiversity & adverse effects. In light of the perspective of these country wide requirements, the government supported to build up a new regional class well equipped research vessel to be operated in international seas & Country’s Exclusive Economic Zones. Within this vision, a very sound target “to build up a National Applied Marine Research Center in TUBITAK Gebze Premises and to develop relevant scientific networking” has been placed supporting the research vessel project. A regional class research vessel R/V TUBITAK MARMARA (41.2 m) came into service in 2013 to support applied research projects in Turkish seas. Further technical information about R/V TUBITAK MARMARA is presented in this link.
