“The International Training Workshop on: Sewage Treatment by Natural Processes; Constructed Wetlands” was organized jointly by The Inter-Islamıc Network on Water Resources Development & Management (INWRDAM) and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), Environment & Cleaner Production Institute (ECPI) at Gebze, Kocaeli, Turkey on December 14 – 18, 2015. The workshop was funded by The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and hosted by TUBITAK MAM Environment & Cleaner Production Institute. Treatment of household sewage by constructed wetlands was discussed; knowledge transfer and networking were achieved at the workshop.
Administrators, scientists and researchers from TUBITAK MRC ECPI, INWRDAM, Pakistan Council of Researcher in Water Resources, Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Malaysia, Ministry of Water Resources, Bangladesh, Iraq, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Istanbul Technical University, Namık Kemal University, The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, City of Kocaeli Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, City of Istanbul Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, City of Sakarya Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, as well as, a representative from TURMEPA NGO were participated in the workshop.
The opening speeches were given by Dr. Murad Jabay Bino, Executive Director of INWRDAM, Assoc. Prof. Kemal Gunes, INWRDAM Turkey Focal Point and Dr. Selma Ayaz, Deputy Director of TUBITAK MAM ECPI. TUBITAK MAM ECPI’s representative research projects on water resources were presented by ECPI researchers. Academicians from Istanbul Technical University and Namık Kemal University presented issues and approaches on integrated watershed management and modeling reactions in constructed wetlands. A field trip was organized to Gebze wastewater treatment plant, Balcik village constructed wetland and water treatment plant in Denizli Village, Gebze with the guidance of City of Kocaeli Department of Water Supply and Sanitation staff.
