TÜBİTAK MAM and TR Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure signed “Feasibility Project For Improving Maritime Education And Training”.
“Feasibility Project For Improving Maritime Education And Training” kicked off with a contract signed by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center and TR Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure on 06 December 2021.
Project signing ceremony was held in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Directorate General for Maritime Affairs with the participation of TÜBİTAK MAM President Prof. Ahmet YOZGATLIGİL, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Director General for Maritime Affairs Mr. Ünal BAYLAN, TÜBİTAK MAM Business Development and Industrialization Vice President Dr. Osman OKUR, TÜBİTAK MAM President Advisor Mr. Gökhan YETKİN, TÜBİTAK MAM Environment and Cleaner Production Institute Deputy Director Assoc. Prof. Haldun KARAN, Senior Research Specialist Dr. Eren ÖZSU, Research Specialist Aslı Süha GÜNAY and experts from the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Directorate General for Maritime Affairs will ensure the trainings currently carried out abroad be carried out in Türkiye, with the vision of establishing a modern training center where theoretical and practical training will be given to reduce human-induced maritime accidents. With this study-feasibility project, it is aimed to contribute to the professional development of our mariners at national scale, to carry out the trainings needed to increase the ship crews' application capacity, and to be prepared for emergencies with a trained workforce capacity.
Along with this aim, 4 main objectives were set:
- Determining the training needs of ship crew, especially a training ship and a virtual training ship,
- Conducting feasibility studies for establishing a model ship-aided harbor pilot training center,
- Conducting a feasibility study for the establishment of a "Training Center for Safety at Sea", which will consist of "Fire Training" and "Survival at Sea Training" units,
- Carrying out a feasibility study for a mobile "Maritime Training Unit" in order to attract interest and love for maritime at young ages,
The project planned to last for 12 months starting from December 2021 is conducted by academics of universities giving maritime education, stakeholders who are competent in feasibility studies and cost analyses, and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center research specialists.
