Biogas and Synthetic Gas Production Processes
Production of biogas from organic part of waste solids by anaerobic biologic process and production of electricity from incineration of biogas are regarded as renewable energy. Our institute is capable of designing of biogas production facility from biodegradable waste, consulting for product, and starting up biogas production facility. In this context, a biogas facility with 13,000 m3 reactor volume and production of 2MW electricity, belonging to Gönen Enerji A.Ş, has been put into service at Gönen/Balıkesir as part of “CatLiq Oil Analyses and Processes Optimization” Project.
Convertion to Valuable Products
Liquid Fuel: Our unit has already continued to produce liquid fuel from treatment sludge, animal waste, agricultural waste, and forest waste by thermochemical processes CatLiq® (Catalytic Liquefaction) and from hydrothermal liquefaction of domestic and industrial organic waste. Optimization of the reaction conditions, experimental design, laboratory analysis, engineering calculations and consultation for research development and industrial technical support services can be performed in the context of the projects related to production of synthetic liquid fuel from waste.
Compost: In the context of recycling of organic wastes, we evaluated compost as most effective and most sustainable solution. Under conditions of aerobic and anaerobic, via microorganisms, we have laboratory and pilot scale applications for converting of organic substances to stable state.
Liquid Fertilizer: The production of liquid fertilizer from wastes containing abundant N, P, K elements has been performed regarding regulations to prevent environmental pollution. In addition, applications for farm fields have been searched.
Recycling of valuable metals and minerals: Studies for recycling of valuable metals (gold, silver, platinum, lithium, chrome), and minerals (phosphorous) from wastes of mining, electronic, volatile ashes and fertilizer production facility have already been carried.
Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF): Regarding environmental criteria and incineration conditions, RDF production has been performed from calorific value contained domestic solid wastes and industrial wastes, placed in Annex-IV waste list at Waste Management General Principles.
Construction and Filling Materials: Ideal formulations have been searched and determined to obtain various industrial applications such as cobblestone, border, ready-mixed concrete, brick, and tile by mixing binding agents such as volatiles ash, cement, and lime with hazardous solid wastes resulting from industrial processes and solidification/stabilization (S/S) process. Thus, it provides solution for waste problem and contribution for raw material need for construction industry.
Rehabilitation of Dumping Sites: By drilling of different locations in storage fields of domestic and industrial waste (thermal power plant wastes, mining venture wastes), studies, related to characteristics of geologic, geotechnical, geophysics and permeability of the field, have been carried to determine whether it accords with regulations related to the storage fields. In this context, determining the environmental effects on soil, water, air, and rehabilitation plans for those adverse effects have already been prepared.
